Amstelvelder is named after the Amstelveld square in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. From 1876 till today this square is used as a market. Till 1941 this market was mainly used by Jewish merchants. Nowadays there is a statue on the square of the most famous Jewish merchant Kokadorus (real name: Meijer Linnewiel 1876 - 1934).
